Join an exclusive team of educational administrators for the highly rated and well-respected international program!  Thailand for School Leaders’ is an independent international leadership development program.  The program was designed in collaboration with University of California, Irvine’s FastTrack Tier II Program, and will support candidates completing California's Tier II requirements.  Yes, you CAN finish the entire Tier II requirement with this offering!  In addition, the program will fulfill requirements for a Certificate in International Leadership from Leadership Innovation.  Participants from around the country are invited to participate in the Certificate-only portion of the program.  The ‘Thailand Program for School Leaders' is the exclusive offering of Leadership Innovation.  Dr. Orozco serves as senior director of the International Leadership Certificate Program, and as an independent consultant and advisor to participants completing CA Tier II program requirements.

We look forward to your participation in this amazing opportunity in professional development for administrators.  The trip will open up vistas regarding your own professional competence, growth, and world perspective.  Thailand is a beautiful, proud, safe, and non-Western country.  You will fall in love with the city of Chiang Mai and the Thai people.   Share this information with a colleague.  And, yes, spouses (significant others), family and friends may also come and 'vacation' while you will be working - and we can assist in their travel arrangements, too.

Where will you be in July?  WE will be in Thailand!!!  JOIN us for a once in a lifetime opportunity!

WHY THAILAND?

Chiang Mai is the 2nd largest city in Thailand.  Considered the country's northern capitol, Chiang Mai is commonly referred to as the 'rose of the north'.  The local geography contains some of the most picturesque scenery in all of Thailand, and includes fascinating 'hilltribes’- indigenous lifestyles which have been preserved for centuries.  It provides U.S. school administrators with a excellent international education experience.  This international program is the direct result of Dr. Orozco’s participation in a U.S. Fulbright-Hayes scholarship in 2004 specifically designed to develop partnerships and international collaborations.  We are extremely pleased to continue our international program in Thailand for our 7th summer!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Thailand program is a concentrated and intense two-week, full time program in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  Candidates participate in several ‘online & webconferencing’ class sessions PRIOR to work on-the-ground in Thailand.  This international program leads the way in innovation, authenticity, and excellence. Striving to develop options in professional development for school leaders, this program also fulfills critical licensure requirements for California administrators:

1.      Certificate in International Leadership and

2.      Important certification/credential requirements for school leaders in California.  The Tier II International option provides an opportunity for California candidates to complete a CCTC accredited program with international leadership experience.  We collaborate with University of California, Irvine to support their Tier II independent study program.

UCI's Tier II Program:  This international program has been designed to endorse and support the University of California, Irvine's Tier II program.  UCI is a fully-accredited, 'fast track,' independent study program under the direction of Dr. Dennis Evans at UCI.  Dr. Evans and Dr. Orozco have collaborated to bring candidates this unique international leadership experience combined with UCI's independent-study Tier II program.   Tier II enrollment is through UCI's University Extension.  For 'Tier II in Thailand', Dr. Orozco 'internationalizes'  the Tier II experience/process, and serves as advisor and consultant to each candidate regarding the completion of course assignments.  Candidates fulfill course/licensure requirements through leadership activities in Thailand, aligned to UCI's independent study program.

Certificate in International Leadership:  Upon arrival in Thailand, candidates will participate in a series of authentic assessment activities including conducting presentations, consultations, coaching, and observations of educational organizations during their stay in the region.  Working in Thailand universities, schools, organizations, and with the U.S. Consul General's office, candidates will complete activities leading to a Certificate in International Leadership.  Administrators will also establish professional networks with Thai leaders to encourage future partnership activities with California (and other U.S.) schools.

About Dr. Orozco:  Dr. Orozco is a Full Professor of Educational Leadership and former Director of Tier II (Professional Administration Credential Program) at California State University, Fullerton. Her experience includes 31 years in educational leadership including both public and private educational settings, district and county offices of education, and higher education administration.  She has taught in higher education since 1991.  She also founded Leadership Innovation, a consulting organization, focused on 'leadership in technology' and 'global leadership' for practicing school administrators.  Born and raised in Los Angeles, she enjoys traveling and many outdoor activities. She is an active runner, having completed 20 marathons including Los Angeles, New York, Paris (France), and Athens (Greece). In addition, she is an avid surfer and scuba diver. She continues to search for the perfect wave in locations such as Hawaii, Brazil, Vietnam, Thailand, and her hometown of Newport Beach.  Dr. Orozco’s full resume including publications, presentations, grants and experience is online at: http://faculty.fullerton.edu/lorozco/orozcovita.html

Thai Partners:  An impressive host of Thai organizations collaborate with the Dr. Orozco. These organizations in Thailand welcome our candidates and help to deliver the program in an innovative manner with an international focus.  These organizations include:

+ U.S. Consul General’s Office
+ Chiang Mai University
+ International Leadership Center
+ Montfort College

+ Amporn Suwanpratet- Thai Coordinator
+ And several other Chiang Mai k-12 schools

The program provides educational administrators the opportunity to enhance their leadership capacity in California's (and the nation's) diverse schools, gain knowledge and understanding of cultural dynamics in our global society, and enhance communications with local Asian communities.  Savvy administrators may capitalize on this opportunity to expand their resumes by citing 'administrative experience abroad', working with a diverse population in their home culture, and enhancing their own 'global' leadership potential.

ABOUT CHIANG MAI, THAILAND
Chiang Mai is the 2nd largest city in Thailand.  Considered the country's northern capitol, Chiang Mai is commonly referred to as the 'rose of the north'.  The local geography contains some of the most picturesque scenery in all of Thailand, and includes  fascinating 'hilltribes’- indigenous lifestyles which have been preserved for centuries. Chiang Mai traces its history over 700 years, and includes a crumbling fortress wall and delightful moat surrounding the old city.  Chiang Mai's population is over 160,000.  Chiang Mai University enrolls over 22,000 students in 85 undergraduate and 122 graduate programs.  Founded in 1964, it was the first institution of higher education in the north, and the first provincial university in Thailand.  Montfort College is a private k-12 educational institution serving over 5,000 students on two different campuses in Chiang Mai.  Founded in 1932, Montfort alumni include a who’s who of Thai leaders in business, education and government.

FLIGHTS
Candidates are free to arrange their own flight.  Experience has taught us that candidates usually want to go early, and/or stay late, to extend a 'vacation' as part of the trip.  In addition, candidates are usually flying out of various cities, including Los Angeles or San Francisco.  Because of these variations, we do not reserve a block of seats on a certain flight for exact days.  Instead, we have found candidates prefer some guidance- then purchase (or use frequent flyer miles) for the dates that work for them.  In addition, many candidates are coordinating their trip with friends and family, who may join them later, or for the full dates of the program.  Flight costs vary beginning at $950+, depending on airline, how early ticket is purchased, etc.  Note- You can fly cheaply into Bangkok and get another flight to/from Chiang Mai (contact our Thai coordinator for assistance).  (For those with lots of frequent flyer miles – United, American and Delta Airlines currently have attractive programs to use 60,000 frequent flyer miles for flights from the US to Thailand)  Candidates are encouraged to make flight arrangements as soon as they are accepted into the program.
In planning your trip please note:

HOTEL

For our program, we reserve an entire floor of a wonderful ‘moat-front’ hotel in Chiang Mai.  Price is less than $45 per night (depending on the exchange rate of the dollar upon arrival in Thailand).  The hotel includes a full all-you can-eat breakfast (American or Thai), swimming pool, exercise room, and in-room refrigerator.  It is an excellent hotel, and has been extremely popular with all alumni over the years.  Note, candidates are free to make other arrangements for accommodations.

VISA

There is no ‘visa’ requirement for US citizens to enter Thailand.

PROGRAM HISTORY
In July 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 school administrators from throughout California traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand as part of this international program for professional licensure.  The overwhelming success of the Thailand program, and increased interest in a Latin American option served as a catalyst for the addition of a Brazilian program.  The Brazil program began in 2009.  "This collaboration with international school leaders and educators provide an unprecedented international opportunity for professional development and learning by both our California administrators and international colleagues", stated Dr. Linda Orozco, Founder & President of the Leadership Innovation & this international program since 2004.

ALUMNI OF PAST TIER II INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS
The program's biggest promoters and supporters have been the 90+ alumni.  We encourage you to contact any of the alumni (by clicking on their ‘Team Webpage’ & emailing them).  Ask about this amazing international leadership opportunity.  Their advice can usually be condensed in two letters, "Go!".    Biographies, pictures, and email addresses of all past alumni are proudly online at:  Alumni Webpage

ALUMNI PRAISE/COMMENTS
The program has consistently received high praise from participating school leaders.  This is will be our sixth year of offering an international program for school leaders, our third year in collaboration with Dr. Evans & UCI's Tier II program.  Candidates can be assured of the same high-quality, international experience as past years.  Here are a few alumni comments:

"The Tier II ‘international’ experience offered me, as a busy administrator, the opportunity to have an "out of the box" intensive experience that furthered my leadership skills and help me to expand my perspective of educational administration - gaining an international perspective!"
-Loretta Whitson, Commissioner, California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) & Executive Director of the California Association of School Counselors

"What an experience!! This was an opportunity of a lifetime to complete Tier II. It was incredibly challenging to complete the competency requirements but it was amazing how I was able to understand and take a closer look at my abilities. It was an educational and cultural enlightenment. And it gave me such a rich perspective and educational opportunity."
-Karen Gerhard, Principal, Capistrano Unified SD

"The experience was invaluable because it required a more complex level of adult learning and it perfectly integrated the discrete functions of cultural competence, communication, problem solving, organizational skills and time management, application of technology, and understanding of effective ELD practice."
-Grace LaTegola, Director of Categorical Programs and Grants,, Grossmont Union High SD

"The Tier II program was an extraordinary and wonderful experience for me. It provided the opportunity to look at educational leadership, schools, professional collaboration and culture."
-Martin Griffin, High School Principal, Escondido Unified SD

“I had the good fortune to be able to attend Dr. Orozco’s class in Thailand and it was a remarkable experience.  Classes like hers are wonderful opportunities.
-Debra Quan, Director of Human Resources, San Rafael City Schools
